Merton Nanquilada

Class of 2006

Sr. Weight Class:

160

Wrestling History

I never did anything in life until I wrestled for Kentwood my Junior and Senior years. As my first sports ever I gained the varsity status, through luck and determination. My Junior year I placed 6th in district over both of the other 160 lbs wrestlers. I would wrestle at 160 and 170, depending on what the coaches want.

Current News

As of now I am working for Safeway as the graveyard Manager. Also I'm training to fight in the UFC. I am hoping to fight at 170 the welter weight division. But I wouldn't have this dream if it wasn't for my Wrestling Coaches at Kentwood. So when I win the Welter Weight Belt for UFC I'm going give my props to all my beloved coaches that gave me the chance and helped me push my limits.

Coaches' Memories

Merton didn’t start wrestling until late, but with his athleticism and hard work he came a long way in a short time.  Merton is best remembered by the Kentwood Coaches for his dedication and hard work.  He was an exciting wrestler, who had an outstanding double leg takedown that he would shoot on anyone.  He always gave his best and seemed to enjoy every minute of it.  We really take pride in seeing the man Merton has become, and always enjoy his visits back to the practice room.
